Dr. Zachary Murphy

Director of Schools

Dr. Murphy is serving his second year at Heavenly Host Lutheran School. He previously was the director of curriculum and instruction at the Baton Rouge College Preparatory Charter School, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and served as assistant principal and held educator positions within the Laurel and Hattiesburg Public Schools and Covington County Schools.

Dr. Murphy earned his Bachelor of General Studies in biology and psychology, his Master of Education (M.Ed.) in secondary education, Education Specialist (Ed.S) in instructional leadership, and Doctor of Education in educational leadership (Ed.D), all from William Carey University, Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

The HHLS Board of Education has extended a three-year contract to Dr. Murphy that will keep him in his role through June of 2023.

He took the helm of HHLS at the beginning of the 2019- 2020 school year. Under his direction, the school has doubled its enrollment numbers compared to the previous school year. With the new growth, classes in the lower elementary that were combined are now split into separate classes. Dr. Murphy has also updated the school’s curriculum and met the demand for a high school program by expanding the school’s offerings to include grades 9-12.

“I truly believe God led me here to join and lead the Heavenly Host Lutheran School family,” said Murphy. “Collectively, this is the most passionate, spirit-filled, God-led group I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Being principal here isn’t just a job to me, it’s truly where I’ve been called to be. When I walk into this school each time, there is nothing like it. God’s peace permeates this place. He is welcome and loved here, and so are you. You just feel it.”
